Lukas Geniušas

With Holy Week and Passover this week, the usual stream of concerts is reduced to a trickle. Next week things will get back into swing, starting with a recital by pianist Lukas Geniušas on Sunday afternoon. The young Russian-Lithuanian virtuoso has taken second place at both the Chopin Competition in Warsaw and the Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow in recent years.

His program includes seven Chopin Mazurkas, Bartók’s Burlesques, as well as fireworks in Schumann’s Faschingsschwank aus Wien and Prokofiev’s Sonata No. 2. Concert time is 4 p.m. Sunday at the Phillips Collection. Phillipscollection.org

Next week the Kennedy Center hosts “Ballet Across America,” a series of performances curated by Misty Copeland and Justin Peck. Dancers from American Ballet Theater, Miami City Ballet, Nashville Ballet, L.A. Dance Project, the Joffrey Ballet, and others perform, mostly with live music provided by the Kennedy Center Opera House Orchestra. The events kick off with an opening-night celebration program hosted by New York City Ballet principal dancer Sara Mearns, 7:30 p.m. Monday at the Kennedy Center Opera House. kennedy-center.org; 202-467-4600.
