NSO strike is settled; gala concert is back on

Fri Sep 27, 2024 at 4:11 pm

In what is likely the shortest musician strike in modern union history, the musicians of the National Symphony Orchestra ended their walkout Friday afternoon about four hours after going out on strike.

Saturday night’s gala NSO concert was cancelled and then un-cancelled and will now take place as scheduled. Both sides have confirmed that the gala is back on.

The agreement calls for a 4% salary increase annual for four years but will be renegotiated 18 months from now in 2026.

The musicians of AFM Local 161-710 were seeking a 25% wage increase over the next four years (6.5% annually) while the Kennedy Center was originally offering 13% over the same period.
