The Library of Congress not only offers free concerts, it offers top-notch performers in one of the best acoustics in the city. The series will present the wonderful Jerusalem Quartet in some of their signature repertory 8 p.m. Friday.
When it comes to the Shostakovich string quartets, the concerts and recordings of this ensemble from Israel are among the best. This performance concludes with the composer’s String Quartet No. 3, a bitter piece composed in the wake of World War II.
The program begins with Ravel’s String Quartet and Beethoven’s String Quartet in A major, Op. 18, no. 5. Any unclaimed seats will be offered to patrons waiting in line the evening of the performance. loc.gov
