With the shutdown of the federal government at an end, the potentially affected music venues are breathing a sigh of relief. At the Kennedy Center the Fortas Chamber Music Concerts series hosts the rising Calidore String Quartet, playing two of its specialty composers, with quartets by Haydn (“The Lark”) and Brahms (Op. 51, no. 1), 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Terrace Theater. The highlight is a chance to hear the Officium breve in Memoriam Andreae Szervánszky by Hungarian composer György Kurtág, a living legend.; 202-467-4600.


In a contemporary song cycle called Im wunderschönen Monat Mai, Reinbert de Leeuw has reconceived a score of German Lieder by Schumann and Schubert, part chamber music and part cabaret act. The Smithsonian Chamber Players will perform 7:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the National Museum of American History with Katja Herbers, the Dutch actress who will be featured in the second season of the television series Westworld.
