Critic’s Choice

The beauty of music for two pianos or piano, four hands, belies the rareness of opportunities to hear it played. Two fine keyboard artists, Shai Wosner and Orion Weiss, join forces for just such a concert 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 5 on the Fortas Chamber Music Concerts series at the Kennedy Center Terrace Theater.

The impromptu duo, both former students of Emanuel Ax, plays two monuments of this repertory: Schubert’s Grand Duo in C Major for four hands and the Brahms Sonata in F Minor for Two Pianos, arranged by the composer from a failed string quintet that later became a piano quintet. Introducing these classics are two modern pieces for four hands by David Lang, Gravity and After Gravity.
