Vocal Arts DC has announced its lineup for next season. The city’s leading presenter of lieder recitals will host seven events, all in the Kennedy Center Terrace Theater, starting on September 28 with a recital by the excellent mezzo-soprano Elizabeth DeShong and pianist Mark Markham.

The final concert of the series, on May 14, promises to be a particular highlight, with the return engagement of countertenor Iestyn Davies and lutenist Thomas Dunford. Their new program, called England’s Orpheus, brings together songs by Dowland, Purcell, and Handel, all musicians equated with the mythological musician Orpheus by their contemporaries.

In the months between are recitals by big names like baritone Simon Keenlyside, making his long-overdue Washington debut with pianist Malcolm Martineau, and tenor Lawrence Brownlee, paired with pianist Myra Huang. Brownlee will perform Tyshawn Sorey’s recent song cycle Cycles of My Being, chronicling the African-American experience through the poetry of Terrance Hayes.

Rounding out the season are rising singers, including South Korean soprano Hyesang Park, baritone John Brancy, and soprano Angel Blue. vocalartsdc.org; 202-669-1463
