One year ago, Sandrine Piau made her Washington debut at the Phillips Collection, to a rave review from this critic. If you missed that performance, the French soprano returns to the area next week. She will sing a program including songs by Chausson, Berg, Mendelssohn, Strauss, and Debussy, which has much in common with that of her last appearance here.

The same accompanist, Susan Manoff, will also be at the keyboard again. It is a pairing that highlights the unmannered elegance of Piau’s voice. In particular, a greater number of Poulenc songs on this concert plays to one of Piau’s greatest strengths.

Vocal Arts DC presents this recital at the UDC Theatre of the Arts 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. vocalartsdc.org; 202-785-9727.
